SFReader Author Page: Joseph Palmer

Welcome to the author page of

JOSEPH PALMER

FIRST !  Thanks to the management of SFReader.com for this wonderful site for readers and enthusiasts, AND Thank you to all my friends and fans for your help and support !!!

Who is Joseph Palmer and how did he start writing ?

I was born in Massachusetts, grew up attending public and private schools in MA, CT, and NH.  After attaining a business degree in early 90s, I took the summer off, during which I typed on my mom's old Zeinth laptop the first 140 pages of what became Dragon Stones.  To this day, I swear it had the best computer keyboard I've ever encountered.  I made a living trading on the stock market in the decade that followed, during which time I found writing fantasy and Sci-fi a great escape from the constant analytical analysis and stress.  Since those days, I have become a husband, parent, and MBA, but still love exploring and sharing great adventures.

My writing style ?

I focus on writing a framework for the imagination, and concentrate on developing the plot and characters, not bogging down the reader with over-writing and superfluous detail.  A book should move and flow, not be a series of over described pictures in between which the characters dance for a moment so you find some amusement.  I want the reader to be turning pages with eager excitement, not stopping to deliberate why boring subplots and brain numbing description abound in the book causing it to be 200 pages to long, promoting the killing of innocent trees, and wasting the reader’s time ;)

My Books  ?

Dirty McNasty was actually the first "Finished" manuscript, and the fastest book I have written to date.  The unexpected labor of love was finished in just under 3 months.  I consider the stripped down, fast cutting dialog and pace of the book a thing of beauty, and the way I wish more authors would write.

Dragon Stones was the first started but second of my finished novels.  It is a coming of age fantasy about a young man who finds the future of his people resting in his hands.  It is a classic theme around which I was able to create a fantastic new world to explore, and characters to love.

The Bottle of Saint Tucke began as an exploration combining many characters, fables, and memories I’d accumulated throughout my life, many associated with The Isles of Shoals in NH.  It grew so long I divided the original manuscript into the First King Trilogy of The Island Court Series.

Sequels ?  Currently I am seeking publishers for :

The Russian Rebuilding, the sequel to Dirty McNasty.

The Pick of Vo and The Wield of Vaperwyron, to complete The First King Trilogy of The Island Court series.
