Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, #18, April/May 2005 Paul J. Iutzi, of Tangent online, says, "It’s been a staple of comedy since… well, since there was comedy, really: man says or does stupid thing to a woman and gets in trouble for it. Even with as long as it’s been around, it never really loses its charm—as long as I’m not the guy getting in trouble (and even then it tends to be funny once I’ve managed to get out of trouble somehow). And so, "Just to Talk," Susie Hawes’s story of a male priest summoning a goddess, has potential from the beginning. Her light and amusing prose more than does justice to the classic subject. It’s light, fluffy, and a delight to read."

Hoping to spare his wife and child the pain of the Etruscan’s treacherous passage to heaven, K agrees to forfeit his own entrance into the afterlife. He is killed in the hills of Tuscany and in fury rebels against the Evas, the twin-headed goddess of terror and decay. A powerful necromancer in his own right, he finds himself among the living dead, forced to sustain existence by consuming the blood, flesh and life essence of living creatures. K flees the village of his birth to protect his grandchildren and launches on a quest for the true meaning of existence. As he travels the earth seeking redemption, he explores the meaning of death, life and the magic that created him. In his travels, K witnesses the birth of a powerful religion and the death of a civilization. He meets humans and vampires, building relationships and experiencing love, betrayal and hope. In the worlds of ancient Greece, Rome and the middle east he follows his quest for redemption. For over a thousand years, he wanders. Will he find a path to the afterlife, or will he ultimately be damned, forced to spend eternity separated from his family? Janrae Frank writes, Susie Hawes' work offers "a very fine reading experience that isn't often found in contemporary fiction. She captures a quality I thought lost with the Golden Age." http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook37823.htm
